These seasonal round-trip services include a weekly London to Ashford to Avignon service from July to September and weekly twice [snow train] during the winter months to serve holiday skiers to Bour St. Maurice, AimelaPlagne and Moutiers in French Alps. The regular terminating stations in France become intermediate stations like Calais-Frethun & Lille-Europe.
Eurostar’s early years understandably were significantly higher than what they are today, with the cheapest fare at ₤99. By 2003, the cheapest fare between London to Paris or Brussels one way was at ₤50 available al throughout the year. In June 2009, the cheapest was at ₤31.
Travel through the channel tunnel has given stiff competition with airlines serving the UK and continental Europe, particularly in the London-Paris-Brussels route prompting fares to go down. Today, there are more passengers carried by Eurostar than all the airlines serving that route combined. It also features business premiere class just like airlines do with fares that have likewise gone down, though not as much.

Island Paradises in America

June 24th, 2009 | Admin

You come across three humpback whales on the ferry to Santa Cruz Island from the California mainland. Not the least bit troubled by our presence, they let you glide almost within touching distance before thrusting their tails out of the water and diving.

And so it goes on an isle that conjures California’s distant past, an American version of the Galapagos that harbors more than 700 species of plant and animal life. Pods of dolphins, sea lions basking on the stony shore; bright orange garibaldi and colonies of starfish inside half-submerged caves that can only be reached by kayak. The only thing missing are the Chumash Indians who lived here until well into the Spanish period.

Top Ranch

The ranch vacation has long had a wholesome, almost therapeutic, connotation. For decades, tired city slickers have gone west to unwind, see the Great Outdoors and spend hours a day in the saddle, on horses with names like Trigger or Zeke. According to Gene Kilgore, founder of the virtual encyclopedia of dude ranches ranchweb.com: “Ranches allow people to disarm, to remove their cell phones and Blackberries, and find out what sage smells like, what a crystal-clear blue stream looks like.”

For pampered travelers though, dude ranches are more likely to evoke thoughts of kitchen bells and campfires than fine dining and luxe accommodations. The Resort at Paws Up, a ranch in Greenough, Mont., challenges that perception. The property’s 3,248 square foot Wilderness Estates, unveiled in summer ’08, are more akin to private villas: Each comes with three large master suites, bathrooms with spa tubs and slate showers, a cook’s kitchen, surround-sound entertainment systems, 42″ flat-screen TVs, a private deck and hot tub and even an electric car.
